ADOPTED TWIN: MY STORY | |||||||||||||||||
PARENTS | BROTHER AND SISTERS | ||||||||||||||||
HOW MY TWIN SISTER AND I FOUND OUR PARENTS: BY ACCIDENT. My twin sister Melissa and I found our parents:Leona Rosemary Whitman and Richard Alvin Nellis in October of 1990. My sister Melissa was nine months pregnate. I had gone to new York to be with her with my son who was three months old. On the day she was due we went to her doctors appointment. Her water broke on the way to the hospital. She was very stupporn and went to her doctors office instead of the emergency room. While we were waiting we were talking about our adoption day, Feb.7th. We celebrat this day together to remind us of our parents and sisters and brothers. This year we were celebrating it early, because I had to go home in a couple of weeks. This lady next to us started asking questions about us being adopted. This was common for us so we didn't think anything of it. She asked us our parents names, place we were born, if we had always stayed together and a million other questions. Then the nurse came to get melissa. Melissa had her daughter that day. My son and I stayed in the hospital with her the whole time. When she was able to go home, we found a note in her mailbox. The note said if you would like information about your birth father write or call this number. WQe called about an hour later after arguing about what to do. The lady who was at the doctors office answered the phone and told us that after hearing our story she new that we must have been the twin daughters of her husband Richard Alvin Nellis. After an hour of talking and getting facts straight she set up a time for him to meet us. The next day he showed up on my sisters doorway and said "It has been a long time." We laughed and cried and he explained as best he could what had happened to us and our sisters Regina Ann and Christina Lynn Nellis. He told us that he had left when we were born. He couldn't face having to take care of four girls now. You see they didn't know they were having twins. Mom was already in the recovery room when she had me, Tresia the second born. After he said that I was dissapointed and didn't say much. After he left I cried for awhile and Melissa said at least we found him. Two days later we met his family,we now had a step-brother and sister. And a step-mother who was very nice. That day was spent with polite conversation. That same day someone came to Melissa's door saying he was our uncle. We then talked to our grandparents Mom's side. They seemed thrilled to see us and we had a nice talk. Our uncle gave us our Mothers phone number. We then called our step-sister Faith who was taken away a year after us. She came over that night and we called our mother on three yes three phone lines. She wasn't there but our brother Mike was. When I told him (I was voted to speak first) my name and what we wanted to speak with his mother for, he said" oh my god. Is this Tresia, one of my twin sisters!" It was nice to know that he knew about us after all these years. He wasn't even born untill years after Mom moved to Oregon. When our mother called us back about 40 long minutes later. We all four of us laughed, cried and hugged one another. Mom the next day sent us plane tickets round trip to see her. Melissa and I went first as Faith was still in school. It was a very long trip especially when Melissa talked the whole time. WE got there and Melissa was saying she isn't going to be here, how will we know it's her etc. She was on the verge of losing it. The plane was early so we had about 30 minutes to wait. Then I say her. She looked just like us. Our step-father, the father we had memories of took my son and her daughter while we three hugged and cried for what seemed like hours. They took us to lunch before going home to meet the brothers we knew nothing about. When we walked into their front door Melissa and I looked at each other and said together "We are finally home." That is our story. |
